Cultivation of International Innovative Talent in China: Challenges and Development

Innovation is the first driving force to lead development. It is an important mission of China's education to cultivate top-notch innovative talents. What kind of posture will Chinese youths who are going to the world stand on the international stage? How to cultivate innovative talents that adapt to the development and transformation of the times? How to train more international innovative talents who can take the lead in China's globalization process? These are the important challenges facing the development of international education in China today.


Based on the above questions, on December 15th, 2018, the " KingLead International Education Symposium on Cultivation Mechanism for International Innovative Talents and International Comparison Research" hosted by scholars of Peking University Graduate School of Education and KingLead was successfully held at Peking University Overseas Exchange Center.


This seminar is held on the basis of the rapid development of international education in China, the urgent upgrading of talent training mode, and the increasingly fierce international competition. It is also the opening session of the special topic " Cultivation Mechanism for International Innovative Talents and International Comparison Research" set up by the Graduate School of Education, Peking University and KingLead. This project will also invite experts from world-class universities and domestic high-quality international schools to jointly promote, focus on the training standards, existing problems and solutions of China's international innovative talents. Therefore, a system and development mechanism of international innovative talents cultivation rooted in China and with a global perspective could be created.


The seminar invited more than 30 guests, including frontier education experts around the world, international school principals and relevant responsible persons, including those from the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China ICC, the Affiliated High of Peking University, the International Department of Beijing 101 Middle School, Western Academy of Beijing, International School of Beijing, Dulwich College Beijing, Keystone Academy, Beijing Royal School, Yew Chung International School and other international education schools and institutions. Besides, many experts and scholars also attended this symposium, such as the Ministry of Education Development Research Center, Peking University Graduate School of Education, Education College in Capital Normal University, Beijing Institute of Education. Taking "the challenge and development of China's international innovation talents" as the main topic, and combining their respective international education practice experiences, they have carried out in-depth and extensive communication and discussion, in terms of the training mechanism and development model of the international innovative talents in China.


The seminar was opened by the Professor of Peking University Graduate School of Education and Chairman of the Professor Council in Peking University Graduate School of Education. The symposium focused on three themes: “innovation and ideological change”, “innovation ability and student development” and “institutional construction and resource guarantee”. In the section "Educational Innovation and Ideological Change", the participating experts described the background, environment and direction of international education development from the aspects of educational concept change, social economic development and the trends for studying abroad, and the school's ability to cultivate students’ ability. In the section “Innovative Ability and Student Development”, the participating experts discussed the path of innovative talents with student-centered learning, project-based learning, and speculative learning from the perspectives of competency goals, teaching models, and measurement evaluation. In the section “Institutional Teachers and Resource Guarantee”, the principals and experts focused on the guarantees of project and resource provided by the Beijing Municipal Government and the Education Group to support the cultivation of international innovative talents.


This is a collision of ideas and academic feasts in the field of international education. The seminar was successfully concluded in a heated discussion. Abundant theoretical results were developed in the seminar, at the same time also laid a good foundation for the subject to further advance. Peking University Graduate School of Education and KingLead will unite more domestic and international authoritative international education experts to carry out research and practice, and continuously promote the optimization and upgrading of China's international education industry; and for the further promotion and development of internationalization of education in our country, they will continue contributing to the internationalization to train more innovative talents.
